- Educated in UC College Alwaye
- MBBS degree from Grant Medical College-Bombay in 1955
- Specialised in Ophthalmology- DOMS in 1957 & MS in 1964
- Worked in Medical College, Trivandrum, Dist Hospital Ernakulam & Quilon
- Worked with kerala state health services as Ophthalmic consultant
- Worked in Dist Hospital,Cannanore from 1964- Resigned from Govt service in 1970 and started his own hospital -Dr, Oommen Eye Hospital at Cannanore President I.M.A.Kerala state 1974-75
- Organising secretary Kerala state I.M.A 1974-75
- Founder president Kerala state ophthalmic society.. 1976-77
- National I.M.A Vice president- 1987-88

Active member of inner wheel and has served two terms as president Blessed with two sons, Raj the eldest is an ophthalmologist and is running the Dr.Oommen Eye Hospital - Moti the 2nd son is the managing partner of Cannanore Drug House ( Pharmaceutical distributors)
Dr. Oommen has 4 grand children
